Most buying patterns are inherited, not chosen.
The usual process: check the forecast, decide how many to buy, send the quantity out for quote, compare prices. It works, and almost nobody questions it, because the quantity is treated as a given and the only variable left is who builds it cheapest.
But the quantity is the variable. It drives your unit cost, how often you're exposed to component pricing, how much you carry, and how fast you can respond when demand moves. Quoting a number you arrived at by habit means optimizing the one thing that matters least.
STOCK changes what you're deciding. You order a larger quantity, sized to whatever horizon makes sense, and we hold the finished units and ship against your demand. What that's worth to you depends on how you order today.

If you place several orders a year

You're paying more per board than you need to. The quantity price curve is steepest at the low end. Moving from four builds of 500 to a single build of 1,300 puts real money back in your unit cost, where moving from 5,000 to 7,500 would barely register.
Most people have this backwards. Smaller programs have the most to gain. Low volume is genuinely welcome here.

If you place one large order a year

Your unit price is already good. Your cash flow is not. Today the whole build invoices at once, on your normal terms, due before you've shipped most of it.
Under STOCK the invoicing follows your shipments. Materials when the first units go out, labor per shipment after that. The payments land closer to when you're actually shipping, and the units sit in our building rather than yours.

If your board has long-lead or volatile components

Every purchase order is a new exposure. Four POs a year means four separate moments where a high-dollar IC or BGA gets requoted, and four chances a critical line item comes back at forty weeks.
STOCK is one quote and one buy. Your quantity is priced once and the parts are secured once.

Product is already built.

A spike in demand is only a problem if your product doesn't exist yet. Today, an order beyond your current build means starting over: component lead times, then build time, then ship. Under STOCK the units are finished and on our shelf. A spike is a larger release, not a new lead time.
The reverse holds too. If demand comes in slower than you expected, you haven't paid for units you aren't shipping.

Because we're building your product and shipping to your demand, we see what you actually consume. Not a forecast. Real usage. After a few cycles we know your run rate well enough to flag when it's time to build again, before you'd have thought to ask.
